This is the spot of fertilization. After fertilization the ovum starts its journey towards uterus. On its way to uterus the fertilized single cell egg starts multiplying and by the time it implants in the uterus it grows into more than 100 cells with a fluid filled cavity called blastocysts.

After completion of implantation, your cervix gets slightly wider and softer, and a thick mucous secretion covers the uterus to protect it from infection. Some women may experience cramping and spotting on implantation. You may not be aware of your Pregnancy but, the baby already starts growing in your womb and sex is determined.

About Baby

The fertilized ovum is undergoing rapid cell division. It will implant in your uterine lining during this Preganncy Week 1 to 4 period. A developing ball of cells called zygote slowly passes through uterine tube, towards uterus. As zygote continues to grow, it develops into blastomere. It further continues to divide and form a solid ball of cells called morulla.

The gradual accumulation of fluid within the morulla results in the formation of blastocyst. It measures only 0.1-0.2 mm in diameter. This blastocyst has two layers, the outer one will form as placenta and the inner one will develop as your baby. And a yolk sac develops for the fetus nourishment till the formation of placenta. The sex and other characteristics of your baby have already been decided with the DNA code that was formed when the sperm and egg first met. By the end of your Pregnancy Week 1 to 4 your baby is an embryo.
