This pregnancy calculator is used to determine your due date by entering the date of your last menstrual period.

How your due date is calculated: Your due date is estimated by adding 40 weeks (280 days) to the approximate first day of your last menstrual period. Only 5% of women deliver their babies on their projected due date, so this date should be used as an estimate - it is not an exact calculation.

Being pregnant is one of the most important phases in a woman's life. The idea of bringing a new life on to this earth is exhilarating; it makes a woman feel on top of the world. Many hormonal changes occur in the body and a lot of emotional changes follow.

The due date is the most important part of delivery. Once this is calculated then all the preparations for the new comer can start. The development of the baby is calculated taking into consideration the due date. The scans that are taken at regular intervals reveal the particulars of the fetus and this is compared with the expected due date to ascertain that the development is normal and according to schedule.

Mothers suffering from gestational diabetes have large babies and this can be monitored and compared with the EDC to plan induce deliveries, if need arises. The baby’s growth should be in accordance with the weeks of pregnancy and the due date is used to calculate the same. Pre mature deliveries are calculated from the normal due date. Babies born twenty one days earlier than the expected due date are called pre mature and need special care. The due date decides whether the child is pre mature or is late. Babies can be born a week after the due date also.

The expected date of confinement or due date (as it is commonly known) is very important as it prepares the mother for the arrival of the baby. The due date also allows the obstetrician to do the necessary arrangements required for the smooth and safe delivery of the baby. If the mother suffers from any pregnancy induced complications such as high blood pressure, doctor can take precautions and if need arises, can also plan for an early delivery calculating the date of delivery from the information of the initial and original due date.
